Turbomachinery plays an important role in large parts of our lives. They are used in in power generation, to power almost all modern aircrafts, or are an important component in process industry plants. In these processes, ever higher demands are being placed on efficiency, emissions and performance. In order to meet these challenges, a deep understanding of the thermodynamics, aerodynamics and structural mechanics of turbomachinery is required.

The turbomachinery industry and associated branches are very diverse and offer numerous interesting and complex topics. In the lecture "Selected topics of power generation and flight propulsion" current challenges in power generation and flight propulsion technology are presented and explained by representatives from research, industry and politics.

The lecture content changes every semester to ensure state-of-the-art topics. Examples for past and recurring lecture contents are alternative propulsion concepts (e.g. hybrid-electric), maintenance of turbomachinery as well as their future areas of application.

The detailed contents of each semester are announced by the Institute for Jet Propulsion and Turbomachinery or the Institute for Power Plant Technology, Steam and Gas Turbines. The two institutes are alternately responsible for the content of the lecture.
